Dr. Moss is a retired physician. As a child, he grew up on a dairy farm outside Mount Scott, Oklahoma. In their efforts to survive the Depression, his family moved first to Lawton, Oklahoma, and eventually to Lubbock, Texas.
After attending Southwest Louisiana Institute and earning a bachelor degree, Basil Moss entered the University of Oklahoma Medical School. On a visit home he met Polly Montgomery, who was attending Texas Tech. They married, and she supported him as he finished medical school. Polly is the subject of several of his stories and poems, including “Valentine’s Day”. After earning his medical degree, he served as a Navy doctor during the Korean War. Then he returned home to Lubbock to practice medicine, and he and Polly raised three daughters: Cecilia, Leslie, and Anita.
Dr. Moss began writing after he recovered from a stroke. He traveled with his wife, Polly, for many years and enjoyed riding his horses Atticus and Kip. Eventually he and Polly moved into Carillon Senior Living in Lubbock. She passed away in 2009. He continued writing stories and poems, and spent time with his children, grandchildren, and many friends until his death in 2018.
